Obituary of Donald J. Bergamo

Dr. Donald J. Bergamo of Rock Hill and a former longtime resident of Thompson Ridge, died on November 7, 2013 at his residence. He was 73. The son of the late Dominick J. and Theresa "Daisy" Elia Bergamo, he was born on June 3, 1940 in Middletown, New York. Dr. Bergamo served with the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during the Vietnam Era. He served in Fort Rucker, Alabama and West Point, New York. He received the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a graduate of Middletown High School Class of 1958. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the N.Y. College of Podiatry. Dr. Bergamo began his practice in Middletown in September 1971 and retired in 2011. He was a member of the N.Y. State Podiatry Assn. Mid-Hudson Division and served as President of the organization. Dr. Bergamo was a member of St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville since 1969. He served as Co-Chairman of the Building Committee for Deacon John Hall. He also formerly served on the Parish Council of St. Paul's and was a Eucharistic Minister of the Church. He served two terms on the Wanasink Lake Board. He was an avid outdoorsman and farmer. Survivors include his wife Ann T. Bergamo at home. His children: Dr. Gregory J. Bergamo and his wife Donna of Middletown; Katherine A. Bergamo and her husband Dennis Chaissan of Rock Hill; Susan B. Corti and her husband Stephan of Westlake Village, CA.; Elizabeth B. Bassett and her husband Michael of Rock Hill and Peter D. Bergamo and his wife Hanna of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. His grandchildren: Colleen Thomas; Brendan Thomas; Nicolas Corti; Olivia Corti; Naomi Corti; Owen Bassett; Dominick Bergamo; and George Donald Bergamo. His mother-in-law Catherine Tolton of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his many brother-in-laws and sisters-in-laws as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Daisy Bergamo and his brother Vincent Bergamo. Visitation hours will be held on Sunday November 10, 2013 from 2-6 P.M. at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main St. Middletown, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday November 11, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Paul's R.C. Church Route 17K Bullville, N.Y. Interment will follow in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery Goshen, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's R.C. Church; Orange Regional Medical Center Pediatric Fund or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.
