Obituary of Michael Alvarez

Michael Alvarez of Greenwood Lake, retired from Teamsters Local 807 in N.Y. and a retired painting contractor, died on July 17, 2015 in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in N.Y. City. He was 69. The son of the late Casto Alvarez and Eugenia Acevedo, he was born on January 15, 1946 in Bronx, N.Y. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church; the Greenwood Lake American Legion; Greenwood Lake Elks Club; Knights of Columbus; the Greenwood Lake Fire Dept. He was also a former basketball coach for CYO in West Milford, N.J. and Greenwood Lake, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was the widower of Anna Alvarez. Survivors include his son Michael Alvarez and his wife Erin and his granddaughter Julianna all of Greenwood Lake. His brothers Casto Alvarez Jr. of N.J. and Manuel Alvarez of the State of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Strong Basile Funeral Home 4 Oak St. Greenwood Lake, N.Y. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at 10 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Warwick Cemetery Warwick, N.Y.
