Reflection of Life Lorraine Smith was born February 1, 1948 at Horton Hospital in Middletown, New York, to her father Herbert Smith and her mother Helena Smith Robinson, who she has now been embraced by in Heaven. On Sunday, January 22, 2023, the Almighty God with his loving Grace called Lorraine home to Glory. It is in that hour that a true Angel received her Wings. Lorraine will one day see again her daughter: Susan Marie Smith-Polen; granddaughter: Sequoya Monae Polen; Grandson: Octavius Devon and granddaughter: Artrella Lorraine Smith, until Lorraine’s spirit shall be with them infinitely. Lorraine is also survived by her brother: Dennis Smith; Elder Herbert Smith; sister: Deborah Van Dunk and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother: Edward Smith and nephew: Shane Smith. Lorraine’s Dearest friends were” Gracie”, “Julie”, “Jerri” and Sheila Lewis. During Lorraine’s early life, she was baptized and attended A.M.E. Zion Church in Middletown, NY. Lorraine graduated from Middletown High School and took business classes at Orange County Community College. Lorraine and her daughter Susan relocated to Sacramento, CA in 1975 to be with her mother Helena, shortly after her brother Edward and sister Deborah with her two children relocated to join them. During Lorraine’s years in Sacramento, she was employed with Stanford Home for children as a counselor for SED children and Howe Avenue Day Care as a child care provider. Lorraine and her daughter Susan moved back to Middletown, NY in 1986 and soon after Lorraine gained employment at Honor EHG, where she worked initially in the kitchen, preparing meals with love for the clients and staff and was then promoted to a position as Admissions Intake Coordinator. Lorraine was with EHG for 35+ years before retirement. During her employment, she received many awards for Employee of the Month, Attendance and Humility. Lorraine enjoyed music, dancing, cooking and crocheting blankets for family and friends. She had a passion for helping others in need and with a loving and humble spirit, Lorraine helped and touched the lives of many. In most recent years, Lorraine took pleasure in organizing and planning special occasions for her friends in “the coffee club” at her place of residence. Lorraine will be remembered for her love, commitment and dedication to her daughter Susan and Grandchildren. Some of her sweetest times were spent as “Gooma” to her granddaughter Sequoya. Lorraine was kind, respectful, friendly and meticulous. She was funny with a great sense of humor and a gentle smile that lit the hearts of many. Memories of Lorraine and the touch of her spirit will always remain in the hearts of our family and dear friends.
