Ruby Rebecca Spann nee Urgent died peacefully at Orange Regional Medical Center on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Ruby was the daughter of Eleazar Urgent of St. Croix USVI and Lucille Downes of St. Thomas USVI. She resided in Manhattan NY and was a graduate of George Washington HS in Manhattan, NY. On April 29, 1963 she was united in matrimony to William H. Spann, who predeceased her on January 17, 2016. They resided in Queens, NY and had one child Helen L. Spann of Crawford, NY. In 2005 they moved to the Town of Crawford, NY. Ruby worked for the United States Department of Health and Human Services- Social Security Administration as a Benefits Authorizer until her retirement in 1994. Ruby was loving, happy spirit who was loved by many and had many "children" that looked upon her as a mother. She always had a kind word, a joke and never judged anyone. Her laughter and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived at home by her daughter Helen, the yin to yang; her grandson Paul L. Black, Jr. in New Rochelle, her younger sisters Beverly Urgent of St. Croix, Dorothy Jensen of Spring Hill, FL and younger brother Arthur Urgent of St. Croix, predeceased by her older sister Helen Urgent and younger brothers George and Anthony Urgent. She is also survived by nephew Hugh L. Jensen of St. Augustine, FL,nieces Diane Jensen-Williams and her husband Larry of Jacksonville, FL, Sylvia Jensen of Jacksonville FL, Cousin Gloria Albert of White Plains and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends in all parts of the USA as well as the United States Virgin Islands. A private celebration of her life will be held in New York and per the wishes of her and her beloved, William their ashes will be spread together in St. Croix following a memorial service in the state of Florida. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Viray and his staff at Crystal Run Healthcare, Dr. Leigh, Hospitalist at ORMC and the nurses and nursing aides on 4 South that treated Ruby as if she were a member of their family.
