Barbara Janet Devine

12/27/1937 - 12/07/2018

Greenwood Lake, NY

Barbara J. Devine, a longtime resident of Greenwood Lake entered into eternal rest on December 7th, at St. Anthony's Hospital. She was 80.

Barbara, the daughter of the late Fred and Janet Amrell was born in Inwood Manhattan and graduated from George Washington H.S. and worked for NY Telephone Company and later in life at Marycrest Convent.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband John R. Devine, sister and best friend Alice Bigger, sister-in-law Ann Misiano and husband Vincent. Barbara had three sons, Kerry J. Waters and wife Ann Marie devoted daughter-in-law who gave her special love and care that Barbara so appreciated. John T. Devine and partner Donna Latella. She was proud of her grandchildren Roxann Waters and husband Matthew Woods, Jerry Waters, Kerryann Waters, Kristen Waters, Tricia Waters Cirone and husband Cono Cirone, and Alana Latella Devine. She also cherished her great grandchildren Olivia, Lucy and Theo Cirone. Barbara is also survived by the many nieces and nephews whom she adored and they in return.

She was predeceased by her beloved son Gerald R. Waters III and wife Patricia, brothers Fred and Philip Amrell, brothers-in-laws Vincent and wife Joan Devine and H. Frank Bigger

Throughout her illness she displayed courage, strength, faith and an unwavering trust in the lord. As a member of the Holy Rosary church, she attended until she was physically unable to do so. She was a member of the GWL Volunteer Ambulance Corp and awarded for her outstanding service. She also volunteered her time at Warwick Valley Humane Society.

She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara was very giving by nature and never hesitated to help out family, friends and neighbors without expecting anything in return. The illness that eventually took her life did not know what it was in for as that tough little girl from Inwood took it to the mat and then some while never losing her wonderful sense of humor!
