Thomas F. Smith Jr. of Greenwood Lake, retired employee of the N.Y. City Transit Authority and a longtime resident of the area, died on October 4, 2014 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. He was 74. The son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Smith, he was born on February 12, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the widower of the late Marie Smith. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, N.J. He was a longtime member of the Greenwood Lake Fire Department, having served as a past Chief; Past President and former Commissioner of the District. He was also an active member of the Orange County Volunteer Fireman's Assn. He was a former Judge at local Fire Parades. Survivors include his sons Thomas F. Smith III and his wife Linda of Virginia Beach, VA. Joseph Smith and his wife Jennifer of Greenwood Lake, N.Y. His sisters Eleanor McCann of Middletown, N.J. and Theresa Siemann and her husband John of Clarksburg, N.J. and his brothers Andrew Smith and his wife Anita of Clermont, FL. and Daniel Smith and his wife Christine of Brooklyn. His sister in law Maureen Smith of the state of Florida He is also survived by his grandchildren Dorian Smith; Zachary Smith; Aaron Smith; Alyssa Smith; Joseph Smith and Sarah Smith as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Melody Smith. His brother Joseph Smith and his sister Mary Radatz. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday October 7, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Strong Basile Funeral Home 4 Oak St. Greenwood Lake, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, N.J. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Lake Fire Dept. P.O. Box 166 Greenwood Lake, N.Y. 10925.
