Nicoletta "Nella" Nickles, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died on Thursday July 3, 2014 at Elant in Goshen. She was 94. The daughter of the late Peter and Pamela Kanaras, she was born on July 30, 1919 in Sparta, Greece. She was the widow of Brasidas "Bill" Nickles, the original owner of the Coney Island Restaurant in Middletown. They were married on May 5, 1935. Survivors include her children Anna Stathes of Worthington, Ohio and Georgia Tingus Gilman and her husband The Hon. Benjamin Gilman former U.S. Congressman of Middletown, New York. Her brother: Louis Kanaras of Baltimore, Maryland. Her grandchildren Nicole Pappas and her husband Nicholas of Sarasota, Florida; Peter Tingus and his wife Jody of West Hartford, CT.; Georgiana Nickles and Brad Nickles both of Peekskill. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Peter Nickles. Graveside services were held on Saturday July 12, 2014 in Wallkill Cemetery Phillipsburg, New York.
