Matthew E. Barry entered into the realms of heaven on January 21, 2016 with his family at his side at Orange Regional Medical Center, after a short illness. He was 80 years old. Dad, a retired sales manager from Delford Industries in Middletown, was a longtime member of the Denton Presbyterian Church serving as both Elder and Trustee and a longtime member of the New Hampton Fire Company. However, Dad's proudest accomplishment (next to his family) was being a U.S. Marine before being honorably discharged in 1955. His pride was made more evident when two of his grandsons made the choice to become Marines as well. "PopPop" as he was affectionately called, enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, happily cheering them on from the sidelines. The son of Matthew F. and Margaret Barry, he was born on March 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rachel, at home; daughter: Beth (David) Grass, of Walker Valley, NY; son: Thomas (Donna) Barry of Slate Hill, NY; daughter-in-law: Dawn Barry of Westtown, NY; grandchildren: Thomas (Catherine), Daniel (Jessica), Joseph, Matthew, David, Marie, Paige, David, Adam, Scott and Dakota and four great grandchildren: Liam, Kiera, Leah and Elizabeth. Dad is also survived by his sisters Margaret Barry and Jacqueline (Glenn) Andrews, both of Elizabethtown, KY and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his son, Matthew D. and daughter, Kim and by his sister, Jane Retz. Visitation will be held from 10 am to noon on Tuesday, January 26th with a service and luncheon following at the Denton Presbyterian Church, 22 County Road 56, New Hampton, NY 10958 with the Reverend Peter Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Denton Presbyterian Church in Dad's name. Arrangements are by the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. Middletown, NY. 845-343-6023 or www.ocfuneralhomes.com
