Marguerite M. Hicks, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area died on Sunday November 3, 2013 at St. Anthony's Community Hospital in Warwick. She was 91. The daughter of the late Francis and Helen Coffey McNaughton, she was born on July 8, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the widow of John M. Mescall. She formerly worked in Orange County BOCES in Goshen and in Sales at the Sterling Forest Gift Shop. She was Mrs. Greenwood Lake in 1978. A Family statement read: "She cruised thru life and had a song for every situation." Survivors include her husband of 31 years: C. Laurence Hicks at home; her seven children: Margie Mescall of Bloomfield, NJ; Jack Mescall and his wife Peggy of Lowell, MA; Kathleen Browne of Chicago; Ellen Ryan and her husband Eamon of Union City, NJ; Barbara Madsen and her husband Willy of Bloomfield, NJ; Frank Mescall and his wife Rosalie of Bloomfield, NJ; Edward Mescall and his wife Pam of Union City, NJ; her stepdaughter: Carolee Chirico of Park Ridge, NJ and her stepson: Larry Hicks and his wife Beverly of Park Ridge, NJ. Marguerite is further survived by her sister: Kathleen McLaughlin of North Merrick, NY, as well as her many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home 4 Oak Street Greenwood Lake, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake. Interment will be at the Orange County Veteran's Cemetery in Goshen, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corp. or Parents of Autistic Children of N.J.
