Margery Gardner

August 26, 1941 — January 12, 2017

Margery DeWitt Gardner, of Bainbridge, Middletown and Amityville, NY died on January 12, 2017 in the home of her family after a short illness. She was 75 years young. She was born on August 26, 1941 to Richard and Marie Gardner of Middletown, NY. DeWitt, as she is known, is survived by her children Sharon Durr of Middletown, Shaw Stack of Otisville, Seth Stack of Waywayanda and Scott Stack also of Waywayanda. She also leaves behind beloved sister, Ruth Miller of Florida, NY. She will be mourned by her grandchildren Audrey Durr, Eamonn Durr, his children: Atman and Sparrow and Kristin Stack, her children: Khloe, Kamilla and Xavier. Dewitt deeply touched the lives of family and friends alike. She leaves long time friends on both sides of the ocean. She was an active member of her community, regardless of where that community was at the time. For many years, DeWitt served as the President of the Amityville-LeBourget French Exchange Club to bring what she called a bigger "world view" to members of her community that might not have otherwise experienced it. An avid traveler and adventurer, she shared that joy with her grandchildren. Until her death, she was an active member of Arts Councils and Historical Societies in three counties. All in all, DeWitt led an extrodinary life, an example in perseverence. She conquered all of the physical challenges that life dealt her without ever letting them define her. When she lost her arm some 40 years ago, she vowed not to let that stop her from experiencing the life she had. As a full participant, she went on to learn Tai Chi, the art of bellydance, and most recently, the creation of exquisite bead work. Throughout her life, DeWitt made her living as an interior designer and an antique dealer, choosing to create a world with all things beautiful! Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 343-6023 or www.ocfuneralhomes.com.
