John Nelson

March 2, 1921 — December 4, 2015

John A. Nelson Jr. of Middletown, N.Y., a retired therapy aide at the Middletown State Hospital and a lifelong resident of the area, died on December 4, 2015 in Highland Rehab in Middletown. He was 94. The son of the late John A. and Helen Howard Nelson Sr., he was born on March 2, 1921 in Marlboro, MA. He was the widower of Cecelia Nelson. John was a Staff Sgt. in the U. S. Army having survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 151 in Middletown. A member of the VFW and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn. He was a member of the Phoenix Engine Company in Middletown. He delivered flowers for Bowser Florist for many years. He loved riding his motorcycle and he enjoyed dancing, fishing and feeding the birds. The family would like to thank Bob Hayward of the American Legion for his support during the past years. Survivors include his children Elizabeth Nelson of Middletown; John Nelson III and his wife Kelly of Tennessee and Darrel Nelson and his wife Jennifer of Pine Bush. He is also survived by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His special friend Anna Beth Kidney. He was predeceased by his daughter Cheryl Nelson and his three sisters and his companion Norma Krause. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday December 8, 2015 from 4-7 P.M. at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main St. Middletown, N.Y. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery Goshen, N.Y.
