Joan M. Sayer Greenwood Lake, New York Joan M. Sayer of Greenwood Lake, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died on April 14, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 82. The daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Walkley Murphy, she was born on November 13, 1931 in St. Albans, Queens, New York. She moved to Greenwood Lake at an early age and met and married Donald Sayer who preceded her in death in 1991. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake, N.Y. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American legion Post 1443 in Greenwood Lake, N.Y. She was a former Election Inspector in the Village of Greenwood Lake, N.Y. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, whether it be her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters or nieces and nephews. Survivors include her children Donna Kowal and her husband Robert; Diana Slattery and Michael Sayer all of Greenwood Lake. Her sister Kathleen Murphy of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Her sisters-in-law Edwina Sayer of Greenwood Lake and Katherine Murphy of Livingston, N.J. Her grandchildren Dana Sheridan and her husband Michael and JohnMichael Slattery and his wife Tara. Her great-granddaughters Alexia and Samantha Sheridan and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin brother James T. Murphy and her brother Thomas J. Murphy and her sisters Maureen Murphy –Schlieffer and Jeraldine Murphy-Sawyer. Visitation hours will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Strong Basile Funeral Home 4 Oak St. Greenwood Lake, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday April 17, 2015 at 9:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake. Burial will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery Warwick, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Arrangements by Strong Basile Funeral Home 477-8240
