Gladys Durland

Gladys "Glady" Durland of Campbell Hall, passed away on Sunday May 20, 2012. She was 88. The daughter of the late Michael and Gunlaug Pedersen Fond, she was born on September 4, 1923 in Freeborn, Minn. She was a graduate of Walden High School in 1942, where she played on the Girls Varsity Basketball Team. She attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. She worked at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, N.Y. and formerly served as the Tax Collector for the Town of Hamptonburgh. She enjoyed playing golf with her friends, Church suppers and feeding wild birds. She especially enjoyed her trips to Europe with her sister's Girl Scout Troop; also travelling to Greece; Hawaii; Aruba; California; Florida and Mexico. She married Albert Durland on April 19, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1977. She was a longtime member of the Hamptonburgh Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Otterkill Engine Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary and served as a bookkeeper for the Otterkill Engine Co. #1. She was also a member of the Hamptonburgh Republican Committee. Survivors include her daughter Donna J. Farrar and her husband Anthony; her son D. Brian Durland and his wife Barbara and her foster son George W. Pierpoint III and his wife Ineke. Her grandchildren Cynthia Carothers; Laura Pileckas; Carly Anne Durland; Daniele Durland; Luke Durland; George W. Pierpoint IV and Rob Pierpoint. Her great-grandchildren Anthony B. Carothers and Conner Pileckas. Her nieces Linda Ruhl; Lois Barrall; Leslie Leonard and Joanne Willson and her nephew Daniel Belknap. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Durland and her sisters Evelyn Peoples and Viola Belknap. Visitation hours will be held on Thursday May 24, 2012 from 6-9 P.M. at the Lippincott Funeral Chapel, Inc. 107 Murray Ave. Goshen, N.Y. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 25, 2012 at 10 A.M. at the Hamptonburgh Presbyterian Church . The Rev. Gary Fox will officiate. Burial will be immediately following in Hamptonburgh Cemetery Hamptonburgh, N.Y. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hamptonburgh Presbyterian Church .
