Dale Gillis

June 24, 1959 — June 20, 2013

Dale O. Gillis of Middletown, a retired staff sergeant for the U.S. Army and later a N.Y. State Corrections Officer at the Goshen Secure Center and a lifelong resident of the area, died on June 20, 2013 in Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He was 53. The son of the late Roland Gillis and Roberta Johnson Gillis Philpot, he was born on June 24, 1959 in Kingston, N.Y. He was a graduate of John S. Burke Catholic High School. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a 20 year veteran in the U.S. Army serving in the Military Police serving from 1976-1995. He was a great foster parent for many years; an avid fisherman and a die-hard N.Y. Giant Fan. He took great pleasure watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, while socializing with his family and friends. He was a well liked good man. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 36 years Annette Reynolds Gillis at home. His mother : Roberta Philpot and her husband Roosevelt of Elmsford, N.Y. His children: Dale Gillis and his wife Michelle; James Gillis and his companion Sami Predmore; Kenneth Gillis and Tarik Gillis all of Middletown. His brothers: Franklyn Gillis and his wife Sharon of Middletown and Roland Gillis and his wife Janet of Maryland. His grandchildren: Chanel Gillis; Javon Gillis and Malani Gillis. His mother-in-law: Ella Reynolds; his best friend of 48 years, Peter Smith. He is also survived by his brothers-in-laws; sister-in-laws; his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 from 10-11 A.M. at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main St. Middletown, N.Y. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Orange County Veterans Cemetery Goshen, N.Y.
