Luther R. Gilchrist Jr., a construction worker and longtime resident of the area, passed away Thursday May 11, 2017 at Richmond University Hospital in Staten Island. He was 37. The son of the late Luther R. Gilchrist Sr. and Merris Jeffries Morris, he was born July 18, 1979 in Newburgh, NY. Survivors include his mother: Merris Morris; his sisters: Tyfanny Gilchrist and Lanikka Nicole McGovern & her husband Chris; her brothers: Ryan Concuzza and Andrew Santana; his close friend: Cici Holloman; his uncles: Larry and Lenny and Luther Herring; his aunts: Morretta and Bunny Herring, as well as his second mom: Mary Jane Knight. He was predeceased by his father Luther Gilchrist; his grandmother: Margaret Jeffries and great grandmother Mabel Jeffries. "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always helpful and endures through every circumstance" – I Corinthians 13:7 Visitation will be held from 12 noon -1 PM on Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Family Church 510 M & M Road Middletown, NY. A Funeral service will be celebrated at 1 PM on Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
